ADDRESS BY THE HON’BLE PRESIDENT OF INDIA SMT. DROUPADI MURMU ON THE OCCASION OF CALL ON BY THE OFFICERS OF CENTRAL WATER ENGINEERING SERVICES

First of all, I congratulate you for your selection in this prestigious service. This service will give you an opportunity to serve our nation in the important field of water resources.

You have joined the service at a time when India has entered into the Amrit Kaal. It is also the time when India is holding the G20 Presidency and the world is looking towards India for its leadership.

Dear officers,

Water is the fundamental need for life. Civilisations have flourished along the sources of water. Water resources management has always been an important and challenging task for all generations.

Your contribution towards the water infrastructure development by providing Engineering solutions will make the country more resilient against natural and man-made water crises.

I am told that Central Water Engineering Service has been contributing immensely in the field of planned irrigation development. The food security of the country is linked to the assured irrigation supply, and our country no longer faces any food crisis. A lot of credit for this also goes to the officers of Central Water Engineering Services.

Dear officers,

Sustainable development of water resources and efficient management of water is the key to water security and economic growth. With greater economic growth and increasing urbanization and development, there will be need for optimum utilisation of available resources.

The changing trend of climate has already started affecting the water sector. Moreover, our country has different topographical and climatic patterns in different regions. Therefore, you are expected to play a key role in adopting a holistic approach to address existing and upcoming challenges. You must emphasise on the development and management of water resources in a sustainable manner.

Dear young officers,

I am told that Central Water Commission has developed and adopted state-of-the-art technologies for solving water-related problems. You should keep exploring the latest technologies in this field. The nation expects you to achieve even bigger milestones through the use of technology and innovation.

I understand that officers of Central Water Engineering Services have been instrumental in water governance in the country by solving national and regional issues. I am happy to know that CWC has been playing a leadership role in developing the water assets which includes infrastructure for drinking water, irrigation, flood control, hydro power and navigation. These are extremely crucial aspects of integrated water resources management.

Dear officers,

Government of India has rolled out Jal Shakti Abhiyan which is a people’s movement for water conservation. 'Har Ghar Jal' is an important campaign with the aim to provide tap water to all rural households. This programme can be successful with your untiring efforts and your will-power to adopt latest technologies and use them for larger good.

Government is committed to provide ‘assured irrigation to every farm’ under the ‘Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana’. Mission Amrit Sarovar is also being taken up as a part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav with an aim to conserve water for future by rejuvenating 75 water bodies in each district of the country.

Your role in implementing all these programmes is extremely crucial. I am told that CWC officers are contributing in a big way to all these noble endeavors of nation building.

In the end, I convey my best wishes to you all for a fruitful career and a productive life.
